year的基本意思是“年”,指地球繞太陽一周所需要的時間,通常爲365天,有時也爲366天,也可指與某物有關的“一年的時間”。year也可指一個人的“年齡,年嵗”,還可指“學年,年度”。
year表示“…嵗的”時,其後通常要加old一詞,此時year前後都須有連字符,且不可用複數形式。
years在表示“好幾年”時,前麪一般不加many。如果指幾十年,甚至更長的時間,則不能用years。
year of之後往往不搭用年份的數目,除非前麪有定語。
